IVSA Bern Supports

"Vet BOOKS for Africa"!

What is "Vet Books for Africa"?

This is a project by vet students from the veterinary faculty in Pretoria, South Africa. Every other year, they visit various universities in Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda and Malawi in a two weeks trip to distribute collected books about veterinary medicine as well as other teaching and practising material - the next journey starts in December 2018.

Why is this necessary?

Even though there are many faculties of Veterinary Medicine in Africa, they are often missing textbooks. Frequently, a whole class has to share one anatomy book - as you can imagine, this leads to very annoying situations, not only during exam period. "Vet Books for Africa" brings collected textbooks from all over the world as well as other useful material to those universities in order to improve veterinary education in developing countries.

What can I do?

Do you have english textbooks (veterinary related, but basics like biology, physiology, ... also welcomed) and other things like dissecting instruments, laboratory coats, and so on that you don't use anymore, so bring them to one of our collection days! No matter how useless these objects seem to you, for other students they could make a big difference. We collect all donations and send them to South Africa in the beginning of November 2018.

Collection days at the Vetsuisse Faculty:

- Thursday, 4. October: 17.00 - 18.00 in the anatomy building

- Thursday, 1. November: 16.00 - 18.00 in the anatomy building
